The folk dance festival, which is held during the days before the national day on 20th August, has been organised in Sátoraljaújhely for almost 30 years.

The speciality of the event is that traditionalist teams of various nations display their folk dances. Italian, Slovakian, Turkish, French or even Greek teams of people who are all acknowledged dancers in their country take part in the several days long event. There are new participating teams or even nations every year, which also helps maintain the uniqueness of the event.

The introduction evenings attract many locals or even visitors. Participating teams are also glad to get familiarised with Sátoraljaújhely, and enjoy its hospitaliy. The event is also great opportunity to establish long distance friendships, and also a great opportunity for both the spectators and the participants to have an insight in other nations’ culture and traditions.
